Jon-Cecil Walkes, M.D.

Jon-Cecil Walkes, M.D. - cardiac surgeon at WTMF Dr Walkes was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia.  Dr. Walkes went on to follow in his father’s footsteps by pursuing a career in medicine. Accepted to Stanford University, Dr Walkes majored in Biology and Humanities and subsequently graduated with Honors in Humanities. Dr. Walkes then studied medicine at the University of California at Los Angeles, again graduating with honors and his doctorate degree in medicine.

Dr Walkes accepted a General Surgery Residency position at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas. After completing General Surgery, he moved into a Thoracic and Cardiovascular Residency at Baylor. While in the Baylor Cardiothoracic Surgery Program Dr. Walkes was trained by Dr. Michael E. DeBakey and joined the DeBakey Heart Team at Methodist Hospital in Houston Texas. Prior to becoming the Chief of Cardiac Surgery at the Washington Township Medical Group he was an Associate Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center and served as the Director of the valve program at the Memorial Hermann Heart and Vascular Institute at the Texas Medical Center in Houston.

In the past five years Dr Walkes has published extensively in the area of cardiac tumor surgery, valve surgery, thoracic trauma and minimally invasive heart valve surgery. Dr. Walkes’ primary focus is adult cardiac and thoracic surgery. Dr. Walkes hopes to develop a comprehensive cardiothoracic surgery service at Washington Hospital which is focused on excellent patient care and quality outcomes.
