Physician Bio
Jennifer O. Chan, MD, is a double-board certified surgeon in Thoracic and
General Surgery, with expertise in thoracic surgery––and is
highly experienced in state-of-the-art techniques to treat diseases and
conditions of the chest and upper GI tract. A native of Northern California,
she began her career as a clinical instructor in Thoracic Oncological
Surgery at University of California, San Francisco. Later, she became
an attending surgeon in thoracic surgery at The Permanente Medical Group,
Inc., in Vallejo, Calif. Most recently, prior to joining WTMF, Dr. Chan
served as an attending surgeon at Interboro Surgical Associates, Inc.,
in Brooklyn, N.Y., with affiliations at Catholic Health Services of Long
Island and NYU-Brooklyn.
Background
Dr. Chan graduated cum laude from Duke University in Durham, N.C., with
a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Next, she received her Doctor
of Medicine degree at Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern
California, which was followed by a medical internship, and then residency,
in general surgery with Los Angeles County and USC. Her scholarship in
medicine led to a prestigious research fellowship with Hastings Thoracic
Oncology Laboratory and Lung Transplantation at Keck School of Medicine,
and a subsequent fellowship in thoracic surgery at the University of Michigan
in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Her research has been published in peer-reviewed publications such as the
American Journal of Physiology. In addition, she has been a co-author
of research presented at several national and international medical association meetings.
