Dr. Stephen John Franzino is a double board-certified, Sports Medicine
fellowship-trained Orthopaedic surgeon with twenty years of experience.
He is continually provides patients with advanced, state-of-the-art diagnostic
and treatment services for a wide range of Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic
conditions. He currently practices at the Washington Township Medical
Foundation Orthopaedics clinic in Fremont and at St. Helena Sports Medicine
and Orthopaedics, the practice he started in 2003 in the Napa Valley.
Dr. Franzino graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree from the University
of Southern California. He then attended and earned his medical degree
from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He was
honored with highest distinction in his graduating class and selected
for membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society
as well as a Dean Scholar for all four years.
Dr. Franzino then completed Orthopaedic internship and residency training
at the Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical
Center. Dedicated to furthering his knowledge and training of Sports Medicine,
Dr. Franzino also completed an additional one-year fellowship in Orthopaedic
Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation.
During his fellowship year, Dr. Franzino provided Orthopaedic coverage
for the San Francisco Giants (MLB), Oakland Raiders (NFL), San Jose Sharks
(NHL), San Jose Sabercats (AFL), USA National Rugby Team and the College
of San Mateo.
Actively involved in the Sports Medicine community, Dr. Franzino is a member
of multiple professional organizations, including but not limited to:
- American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine
- Arthroscopy Association of North America
- American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery
- American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
- The Society for Golf Medicine and Performance
- National Hockey League Team Physicians Society
Dr. Franzino has been and is currently an orthopaedic consultant for professional
Bay area sports teams, including the San Jose Sharks (NHL), San Jose Sabercats
(Arena Football League) and the PGA Tour. He is also the consulting team
physician for several junior colleges, high schools and Pacific Union College.
