Should I Be Worried About My Lower Back Pain?
While chronic low back pain is worth attention and care, it is almost never
demonstrative of something truly dangerous such as cancer or an abdominal
aneurysm. Typically, low back pain simply occurs when a muscle is strained
or sprained in lifting a heavy object, playing sports, or some other activity.
In some cases, your doctor may provide you with muscle relaxers or may
inject steroids in the epidural space. Rare occasions call for surgical
remedy, but this is typically only considered after lengthy periods of
treatment have been conducted without success. Ask your internist for
advice on preventing back pain if you are an athlete or you work in an
active occupation.
