Stacie Macdonald, MD, views her role as one of a teacher.
“I am committed to educating my patients about their health,”
said Dr. Macdonald, “and I want to empower them in their health
She’s been doing just that since she arrived at Washington Women's
Health Specialists in 2003, after finishing her residency at Robert Wood
Johnson University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Cooper Hospital.
Prior, she received her medical degree from St. George’s University
School of Medicine.
“I love working in such an incredible, diverse community,”
said Dr. Macdonald, “and it’s very meaningful to work with
women throughout all of life’s stages––from adolescence
to the reproductive years and then the menopausal transition. It’s
a unique and valuable challenge, and I learn as much from my patients
as they learn from me.”
Dr. Macdonald’s primary interests are general and high-risk obstetrics,
contraception, minimally invasive surgery, and family planning strategies.
At Washington Hospital, she is chair of both the Obstetrics and Gynecology
Committee and the Maternal Child Health Clinical Operations Committee.
“Quality is very important to everything we do,” explained
Macdonald, “and these committees are committed to ensuring our quality
initiatives are being met and, in most cases, exceeded.”
The busy mom of two loves to hike, camp, travel and spend time with family
and pets when away from work. Tops on the activity list are Girl Scout
craft sessions with her daughter and watching her son play hockey.
“I am very happy to be offering my services as part of the Washington
Women’s Health Specialists team,” said Dr. Macdonald, who
is a fellow of the
American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “It’s very gratifying when patients tell me they feel like
we really hear what they have to say, instead of just passively listening.
This engagement always leads us to a treatment plan that works for each
patient and their specific needs––and that makes what we do
a very collaborative and rewarding process.”
