Risk Factors for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
You may be at a higher risk for abdominal aortic aneurysm if you:
- Are a man over 60 years old
- Are a woman of 60 years old who has hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes,
heart disease, high triglycerides, or are being treated for high blood
pressure or high cholesterol with medication
- Are a man or woman over 50 years old with a family history of the condition
- Are a man or woman over 50 years old who is a current or former smoker
Risk Factors for Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)
You may be at a higher risk for PAD if you:
- Are over 35 years old and smoke
- Are over 40 years old and have high triglycerides, hypertension, or high
cholesterol, or are being treated for such a condition
- Have diabetes
- Are over 40 years old with a family history of PAD
- Have had a stent, angioplasty, bypass surgery, or heart attack
Risk Factors for Carotid Artery Disease & Stroke
You may be at a higher risk for stroke and carotid artery disease if you:
- Have diabetes
- Are a current or former smoker
- Have a family history of stroke in parents, grandparents, or siblings
- Are over 40 and have high cholesterol and / or hypertension or are taking
medications to treat these conditions
- Have arterial blockages in your legs
- Have had coronary artery disease or a stent, angioplasty, bypass surgery,
or heart attack
