Phlebectomy for Varicose Veins
Vascular Care at Washington Township Medical Foundation
Phlebectomy is a treatment for varicose veins. It is a minimally invasive
procedure with high success rates for eligible patients. The procedure
takes place in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia and serves
to remove varicose veins from under the skin. Your doctor will use a tiny
needle or scalpel to make the very small incisions—so small no stitches
will be necessary—and then a phlebectomy hook will be used to remove
the veins. The procedure is both effective and safe.
Preparing for a Phlebectomy Procedure
It’s important to communicate a complete medical history with your
doctor, including any current medical conditions as well as allergies
and any medications that you may be on currently. This will help one of
our vascular specialists at Washington Township Medical Foundation choose
the right treatment option for you.
More than 90% of patients have experienced long-lasting success as a result
of this treatment. If you are a good candidate for phlebectomy, you should
experience very good results from this procedure. Your doctor may recommend
that you use this approach as part of a larger treatment plan. Other recommended
procedures may include endovenous catheter ablation using laser energy
or radiofrequency.
