Physician Bio
Dr. Achanta completed medical school at Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad,
India. He completed general surgery residency at a Tufts University affiliated
hospital in Boston, and a laparoscopic surgery fellowship at USC, Los
Angeles, California. Following his training, he served as clinical instructor
in surgery at USC, Los Angeles, and then as staff surgeon at Kaiser Permanente
Medical Center, Orange County, California. Dr. Achanta became a member
of the surgery department at Washington Hospital, Fremont, California
in April 2001 after joining a Fremont based multi-specialty group practice.
Dr. Achanta is a fellowship-trained and board certified laparoscopic and
general surgeon. Dr. Achanta’s surgical expertise includes laparoscopic
and open abdominal surgery including laparoscopic gallbladder surgery,
all types of laparoscopic/open hernia repairs, laparoscopic/open colon
surgeries, laparoscopic splenectomy and laparoscopic adrenalectomy. His
practice focuses on breast surgery, colon surgery, rectal surgery, endocrine
surgery, parathyroid surgery, thyroid surgery, reflux surgery, and stomach surgery.
He has authored several text book chapters and research papers in leading
national and international journals of surgery and is a Fellow of the
American College of Surgeons (FACS), and a member of the Society of American
Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and the Society of Laparoendoscopic
Surgeons (SLS).
Dr. Achanta served as chair of the General Surgery Section and as chair
of the Department of Surgery at Washington Hospital. He is passionate
about medication safety and has served on the hospital Clinical Evaluation
Committee (CEC) and Pharmacy Nutrition and Therapeutics (PN&T) committees
for the past eight years, and is the current chair of the PN&T committee.
