Comprehensive. Compassionate. Contemporary.

Welcome to the Urology Department at Washington Township Medical Foundation, a place where top specialists with top experience lead to great outcomes.

“It’s not just skills and know-how that make us successful,” said urologist Mark Saleh, MD. “It's also about a philosophy of treating every patient as unique.” Urologist Mark Hsu, MD, agrees, and added, “No two patients are alike. There’s a story behind every patient, and we enjoy hearing about their lives and what brought them to us. This helps us to best tailor a personalized treatment plan.”

When these patients arrive, they’re choosing one of the preeminent urology teams in Northern California. Dr. Saleh and Dr. Hsu are both board-certified by the American Board of Urology, and each is experienced in minimally invasive and state-of-the-art procedures. The physician-researchers are highly trained and skilled in identifying all types of disorders that affect the urinary tract––and providing effective behavioral, medical and/or surgical treatments.

The program’s broad range of treatment options are available for men, women and children, and the entire team is committed to safe, high-quality care in every patient encounter. A huge asset to the program is the academic and community collaboration with multidisciplinary teams at Washington Township Medical Foundation, Washington Hospital and the University of California, San Francisco.

Among the Conditions We Treat

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) –– enlarged prostate
BPH is an enlargement of the prostate, which can cause an overgrowth that constricts the urethra and limits the flow of urine. BPH is quite common in men older than 50 years. It’s not the same as prostate cancer and doesn’t increase the risk of cancer. However, it can cause symptoms that can affect quality of life. Possible symptoms include a weaker or intermittent stream, frequency, urgency, and waking up multiple times at night to urinate. In some cases, BPH can lead to infections, bladder stones, and reduced kidney function. Many men may note improvement with medications, while others may prefer or require a procedural intervention to improve their condition.

Treatments offered by our team include:

Prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is an abnormal growth in the prostate gland. This walnut-shaped gland in the male reproductive tract makes seminal fluid, which mixes with sperm. Cancer develops when cells divide out of control. Early detection and treatment have led to better survival for all stages of prostate cancer. Screening for prostate cancer is a shared decision-making process. Detection can be performed with prostate specific antigen (PSA) screening, serum/urine biomarkers, prostate MRI, and prostate biopsy.

Treatments offered by our team include open or robotic surgery, coordination with our Radiation Oncology team on radiation-based options. Find out more about our minimally invasive approach to a prostatectomy by visiting the da Vinci Medical systems website.

Erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) describes difficulty with starting or maintaining adequate erections for sexual relations. Often, ED results from health problems that pose more serious complications if left untreated.

Treatments offered by our team include counseling, oral medications, penile injections, and penile prosthesis implantation.

Male infertility

Male infertility represents an issue in a man that lowers the chances of his female partner getting pregnant. Fertility issues are related to low/absent sperm counts, abnormal male hormone levels, or abnormal semen parameters in terms of motility/shape.

Peyronie's disease

Peyronie's disease occurs when plaques (segments of flat scar tissue) form under the skin of the penis, causing abnormal curvature that make sexual relations difficult and/or uncomfortable.

Treatments offered by our team include XIAFLEX®.

Vasectomy and vasectomy reversal

Vasectomy is a minor office procedure intended for permanent male sterilization/birth control. This prevents sperm from getting to your semen when you ejaculate.

General Urology and all conditions of the urinary tract––including circumcision, hydrocele, spermatocele and more.

Overactive bladder/urge incontinence

Overactive bladder (OAB) is a condition in which the bladder squeezes urine out prematurely. This can lead to symptoms of going to the bathroom very frequently, urgency with urination, and having urinary leakage from it.

Treatments offered by our team include behavioral modification, pelvic floor therapy, oral medications, percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation, bladder Botox injections, and InterStim.

Stress urinary incontinence

Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) is when urine leaks out with activity (cough/laugh/sneeze/exercise), producing sudden pressure on the bladder and urethra, which causes the sphincter muscles to open with urinary leakage.

Treatments offered by our team include behavioral therapy, urethral bulking injections, and placement of midurethral slings.

Circumcision is a surgical procedure in which the skin covering the end of the penis is removed, especially in cases where the foreskin can not be pulled back (phimosis) or if there is infection (balanitis).

Undescended testicles

An undescended testicle is when it fails to go down into its normal location in the scrotum.

Advanced Urologic Care

Hematuria (blood in the urine)

Recurrent urinary tract infections

Kidney Stones

A kidney stone is a hard object made from chemicals in the urine that can obstruct the kidney and cause infection or loss of kidney function. We offer comprehensive medical evaluation and multiple surgical techniques to address stones.

Testicular/Bladder/Kidney/Upper Tract Cancer

Offering comprehensive medical, endoscopic, and surgical evaluation/treatment in collaboration with Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology.

Urethral/Ureteral strictures

Strictures of the urethra or ureter are scar tissues that occlude the flow of urine. This can be treated with dilation, laser incision, or reconstruction.
