Kevin Porciuncula, MD

About Dr. Porciuncula

Kevin Porciuncula, MD, is a board-certified Family Medicine physician who grew up in the Bay Area. He joined Washington Township Medical Foundation on March 1, 2021.

“It’s great to be home,” said Dr. Porciuncula, who feels that giving back to the community through quality health care is a privilege. “My family taught me early on that there was a great purpose in serving others.”

That service has taken many forms, from volunteering in homeless shelters as a young child to visiting patients dressed as Raggedy Andy during his college years. He developed his passion for medicine by watching his internist father at work and taking part in medical relief efforts as a medical student.

His approach to Family Medicine is clear. “I’m committed to providing patient-centered care in every encounter,” he explained. “Caring for my patients is really a partnership and collaboration. This leads me to the best possible recommendation based on a patient’s values and preferences. It’s a perspective that creates trust.”

Dr. Porciuncula graduated with a double degree in Biological Sciences and Philosophy from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He received his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, in Manila, Philippines.

His residency in family medicine was completed at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He completed a highly praised quality improvement research project at the UPMC Shadyside Family Health Center, and was twice recognized as an exceptional resident teacher during his time in training. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Since returning to the Bay Area, he has worked in underserved community health clinics in Sunnyvale, Mountain View and Palo Alto. He joined his father’s private practice in Hayward before joining the Nakamura Clinic and Family Medicine team in Union City.

Dr. Porciuncula has participated in numerous international medical and disaster relief missions. His most recent medical mission was in Zambia, Africa, where he was the Chief Medical Officer and served alongside other healthcare volunteers treating the poor and sick.

In addition to family medicine, he has two additional board certifications. He’s board certified in Obesity Medicine by the American Board of Obesity Medicine, and Lifestyle Medicine by the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine.

Away from work, he enjoys exploring the Bay Area backroads and hiking. He is also a music enthusiast, plays the guitar and enjoys a night of karaoke with family and friends.

“It’s an honor to be a part of the local health community,” said Dr. Porciuncula, “and I look forward to partnering with my patients in providing the best possible care.”
